As the Club’s new Director of Pilates and GYROTONIC®, I am honored to be leading such an intelligent and experienced group of instructors in a facility that is the gold standard of excellence in the health club industry. I look forward to helping our members live well by introducing some exciting new changes to the Pilates and GYROTONIC® Department. My goal for the future is to maintain the high quality of this already outstanding program and to introduce new perspectives and formats regularly. Here is a little background on my Pilates philosophy and the changes you can expect to see in the upcoming months.
For a long time, breaking from classical Pilates tradition was frowned upon in the Pilates community. Over the past few years, though, a contemporary view of Pilates has formed that incorporates modern scientific advancements. Joseph Pilates was indeed ahead of his time in developing this form of exercise, but by incorporating proven scientific methodologies, Pilates can be even more effective in injury prevention and strength building.
My belief is that the best Pilates practice does not lean more towards modern science or more towards classic Pilates, but rather is right in the center of the two. It must incorporate the history of Pilates with modern science, and we must always be open to new developments in the way we practice.
I am very excited to introduce our first session of group classes under my direction. We are keeping our popular and effective formats and adding some new ones to the mix. Here are some of the changes we have made based on valuable member feedback:
